There will be a meditation retreat and day of Noble Silence/Mindfulness in observance of the Nikini Poya on Saturday, Aug 28, 2010, from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm at the Georgia Buddhist Vihara. All meditation instructions, Sutta discussions, and Dhamma talks will be conducted in English.
Below is a tentative schedule of the program:
MORNING PROGRAM
7:30am – 8:30am Observance of the eight Precepts, Buddha Puja and Offering of breakfast foods to the monks and those who are observing the Eight Precepts (Heel Dana).
8:30am – 9:00am Tea and coffee break
9:00am – 11:00am Vipassana Meditation - Introduction of Vedananupassana (The establishment of mindfulness on the feelings)
11:00am Buddha Puja
11:20am – 12:30pm Offering of lunch (Dana) to the monks and those who observe Eight Precepts.
AFTERNOON PROGRAM
12:45 – 1:45 Metta (Loving-Kindness) meditation; Vipassana meditation; Walking meditation
1:45 – 2:15pm Break (time for personal reflection and reading); Coffee and Tea
2:15 - 3:15pm Vipassana Meditation
3:15 – 4:30 Sutra Discussion of the SALLEKA SUTTA (Please go the following link and print the sutta to bring to the discussion: www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.008.nypo.html)
5:00 - 7:00pm Termination of the Eight Precepts (Sil), Buddha Puja, and chanting of the Sacca Vibhanga Sutta.
Please Note:
Participants will need to bring a small breakfast food and a lunch dish (preferably vegetarian) to share with the monks and the participants in the retreat as a form of Dana (generosity). Please contact the retreat coordinator (Justin Howell) to inform him of what food you plan to bring to the retreat either by email at justinhowell2112@gmail.com or by phone at 404/375.0264.
During this special time, please consider making a monetary donation to the Vihara as a form of Dana so that we can continue to support the monks and to keep the vihara open so that all people are able to practice and learn about the Dhamma.
